2022 Toyota Tundra Trd Pro

 2022 Toyota Tundra Trd Pro

2022 Toyota Tundra Trd Pro The next-gen Toyota Tundra pickup is around the corner, and it's way overdue. The current Tundra has been around since the 2008 model year, and although the truck has received a few updates since, its basic architecture, powertrains, and capability have not changed much.

The Japanese automaker gave us a glimpse of the new truck's grille last month, and this TRD Pro model has a large "Toyota" badge above an LED light strip that's integrated into the blacked-out grille. The truck is sitting on a set of black TRD Pro-specific wheels wrapped in all-terrain rubber, and there's a black pattern surrounding the wheel arches. A large debossed "TRD Pro" logo is stamped into the tailgate, and three amber marker lights are on the rear, too, suggesting that this truck could be more than 80 inches wide.

New Base Engine, Who Dis?

During an interview with Motor Trend, Bob Carter, executive vice chairman of sales for Toyota North America, revealed the new Tundra will have two all-new power trains.

The base engine are going to be "a core power train that's substantially more powerful in terms of horsepower and torque than the present V-8," Carter said. We take that to mean the new engine will make quite the 381 hp and 401 lb-ft of torque churned out by today's 5.7-liter V-8. We don't yet know whether that new engine are going to be a V-8 engine or a turbocharged V-6, but we're looking forward to extend in base-engine capability.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

We don't yet know how much the 2022 Tundra will cost, but we think it'll be slightly more expensive than the outgoing model, which started at $35,620. Once Toyota releases official pricing, including the available trim levels and their accompanying standard and optional features, we can recommend which one to buy.

Speaking of which, the aforementioned engine teaser supports rumors that a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 will serve under the hood. We've also heard a hybrid power train are going to be offered, but Toyota has already confirmed the new Tundra's base engine are going to be more powerful than the present 5.7-liter V8. That thirsty mill generates 381 horsepower (284 kilowatts) therefore the next-gen Tundra should not be hurting for power.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

The 2022 Tundra might be the sole full-size pickup to not offer a V-8 engine. Instead, we expect Toyota will supplant the previous generation's 381-hp 5.7-liter V-8 with a V-6 hybrid, supported a teaser image released by Toyota. The new hybridized power train is predicted to feature either a twin-turbocharged or naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V-6. If the Tundra gets the latter it might be a version of the engine that powers the new Toyota Land Cruiser, which won't be offered within the U.S. and makes 409 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. Of course, the Tundra's power train are going to be tuned specifically for pickup-truck duty, so its final power figures will likely vary . Also likely to vary from its predecessor is that the rear suspension, which previously utilized a leaf-spring setup. we expect subsequent generation could ride on more refined coil springs, air springs, or maybe possibly an independent rear suspension.
